Student Work
A look at the shoots, rehearsals and edits our students produce during supervised practice in and around Oxford.
Scenes from practice shoots and edits
Students work outdoors, in the classroom and at the editing desk. The scenes below show the kinds of setting and task each course uses to build technique.

Handheld shooting on a busy street
Students practise keeping a shoulder-mounted camera steady while a subject walks and talks. Tutors check that framing stays consistent and that movement serves the shot.

Piece-to-camera rehearsal
A reporter delivers a short script to camera while a classmate monitors sound. The take is recorded and reviewed straight afterwards for pace, eye line and clarity.

Setting up a two-person interview
Students choose a background, place the microphone and agree a shot size before the subject sits down. Preparation here saves time and avoids awkward re-takes.

Live report planning on location
A small crew walks through cueing, camera position and sign-off before going to air in rehearsal. Everyone knows their cue and what to do if the plan changes.

Cutting a news package
At the editing desk, students trim interviews, lay narration and balance sound. Tom reviews each timeline with them to keep the story fair and easy to follow.

Classroom discussion on consent
Small groups talk through case scenarios on privacy and the legal limits of broadcast reporting, then explain how they would handle each one on a real shoot.
